F.D.R versus H.L Mencken(the crabman of Baltimore).

The spectacle of self-important was on full display the other night at,indeed,a Saturday special the White House Correspondents Association were boring elicits meet and greet telling lame jokes impressing each other to the point self-aggrandizement is comman place. Then phonies from Hollywood airing there sense of being to common folk superiority believing there are so clever,so amusing but in reality are just so insipid. And talking about being in insipid, there was host Conan O'Brien, lack luster performance,a son of Ireland, but taste of blend soup over cooked,oh yeah some good lines but mostly a dud. The President wasn't bad,his lines well written far more tasty and less pasty then O'Brien's.
This event remembered me,of time when Hollywood didn't meet Washington and Press corp was the business of news not entertainment.Indeed,in such event there was show down between Franklin Delano Roosevelt(F.D.R) and H.L Mencken.Mencken was dean of journalists,a great word smith, cynic and the crab man of Baltimore(my words to describe Mencken). For Mencken was very much part of Baltimore,as is crab cakes.
On 12/11/1934 F.D.R and Mencken went to the Gridiron Club dinner(which still held today). The Gridiron Club is composed of leading members of the Washington Press Corp. The principal speakers at the off-the-record affairs usually are a prominent member of the opposition party and the president.
In a departure from custom, the opposition speech was given by H.L Mencken of the Baltimore Sun.In reply, the president engaged in what seemed to be a diatribe against the American press, which he said was shot through with "stupidity, cowardice and philistinism," and staffed by men "who could not pass the entrance examination for Harvard and Tuskegee,or even Yale." It was several minutes before the audience came to realize that he was quoting Mencken's essay,"Journalism in America."

If John Maynard Keynes is right and there real stickiness with prices then just maybe worst is over for economy.

If John Maynard Keynes is right, and there is a real stickiness with prices(another words prices don't move lower for long time in bad economy)then just maybe the worst is over for the economy.According to Keynes, the last thing a businessman does cut prices,in bad times the first thing will be cut back on overtime, then you don't hirer anymore workers, then you might layoff workers, and finally out desperation to create demand you lower prices. So when prices are lowered or deflation,it maybe a sign that unemployment has peaked and just maybe the beginning of the end bad economic times. However,in the 1870's to 1890's in most of the world especially the U.K there was world depression, although  the U.S was hit by the panic of 1869 and 1873 and 1893which cause much economy distress, but they were short in duration but not so with U.K and Europe as a whole. The down turn in the economy, was caused by two factors:one, more efficient modes of transportation, railways and the opening of the Suez Cancel, which lead to much cheaper goods, hence businesses can't make money, economists call that creative destruction, add a tight monetary policy, most countries were on Gold Standard, hence, good were cheap but less money to buy them and less margin for profit.
The world has truly become upside down, when Russian leader Medvedev says Russia might use stimulus(i.e Government actions) to help the economy but he worries about too much state inference with economy.Boy this isn't the world I grew up in.
So many central banks are buying bonds these days, you do wonder when it end and how? Maybe a bubble? The policy doesn't seem to be working, but policy makers I think don't want what to do.So we are quagmire economically.

U.S G.D.P grows at weak 2.5 but still better then Europe.

U.S G.D.P grows at weak 2.5 but still better then Europe. For example Germany grow at .5 and the U.K at .3 bad signs maybe heading for recession?
Earning for U.S companies tend to beat estimates, however, not so with revenues and one must ask the question just how much can companies continue to cut, soon or later if revenue don't increase profits will disappear.
My two biggest holdings reported earning this week Exxon and Colgate-Palmolive.
Exxon,a great company, very well managed except in P.R department, report profits of 9.5 billion or 2.12 a share up from 2 a share last year, however, revenues did drop by 12 percent and production fall by 3.5 percent, however, management claim due to the Canadian sands project production will raise in 2014 to 2017 about 4.4 percent.Exxon did well in Downstream(refining and marketing)operations also did well with chemical division however upstream(explosion and production) operations was down just is because of lower oil prices.Usually in oil business it the upstream operations where the money is made but with lower price for oil less money comes in from production, however, margin for refineries can improve since buyers cruel.
Colgate-Palmolive ran counter to trend of higher profits but less revenue thanks to Hugo Chavez, may you rot in hell.Because of devaluation of Venezuelan currency profit for Colgate-Palmolive were down .97 cents per share without devaluation profit will be up 1.32 per share. Now what makes me worry is Argentina were Colgate does a lot business and crazies ran asylum there too!

Germany just like Venezuela?

Germany just like Venezuela? Sounds crazy but in Venezuela if you even talk about economic activity in dollars(U.S) you can go to jail for seven years. This morning in the New York Times, a story about soccer player( I know in rest of world it's football) admits guilt for having Swiss foreign bank account and can get ten years in jail.Maybe Uncle Putin on the Ritz, is wrong there are problems in Germany.
Anyway talk about soccer I think of suckers, ran into woman in elevator yesterday and she was so happy because she got check from government a tax refund. But what she doesn't understand,as people don't,is tax refund is suckers game. It's not income,it's refund because you overpaid your taxes and since government doesn't pay you interest on your overpayment,in effect you given the government an interest free loan.
According to sight, seeking alpha you should buy a ticket(stock) on CXS before it leaves the station.I like this stock,in fact I own it railroads in U.S have great business model oligopoly, for example the Eastern part of U.S mainly only has two railroads:CXS and Norfolk Southern.
Yumi Brand ain't so yummy in China these days hurting the bottom line and stock, maybe has something to do with bird flu?
Netflix is crazy rock and roll stock in 2011 it hit of high of 286 then drop crazy down to 66 early today 216.Nuts maybe built stack of cards? I don't know but this stock is crazy.

As good as gold? That's what John Paulson said.A merger between Time-warner and CBS?

As good as gold? That's what John Paulson said and he's the guy who clean up from housing bubble. He predicted the housing crash before 2008 shorted many mortgages and make small fortune.Indeed, while gold is falling as a rock, many hedge fund, big time players are buying gold.Is buying gold a fools error or way to male small pile? I don't know, but heard an currency analyst Sterling Smith(what great name for money guy Sterling) on Bloomberg T.V say if gold fall below 1400 it might go down to 1310 but if stays above 1400 it's going up.And of course, always the talk about gold as hedge against inflation but inflation seems to be a bugaku  dance.
A merger between Time-Warner and CBS? Well,Time-Warner does need a network, like Disney has ABC,News Corp Fox,Comcast NBC.Already Time-Warner has joint venture with CBS CW network. However the stock for CBS is high and last big merger for Time-Warner was a merger between Warner Communication and Time wasn't exactly a marriage made in heaven didn't work out as planned.
Putin on the Ritz, said only Germany in EU has no problems.Curious isn't there election coming up in Germany? Is Merkel Putin's secret girlfriend? Putin on the Ritz also says, while things are still, even after Cyprus, ritzy for him not so much for the rest of Russia.
Two interesting stocks, not recommending them to buy but they do seem cheap:One is the Norwegian State controlled Oil Company Statoil,at 23 cheap over 4.5 dividend yield and the dividend is very safe, indeed, likely to go up.The other is U.S Steal and just might be a steal at 16,it once and that wasn't all that long ago was over 100,bad times have hurt the stock but think it's good company and yes it might go lower but then again the up side is so promising.

A letter to editor I got published today in New York Post on the Boudin outrage.

Today 4/20/13 I got a letter published in New York Post on the outrage of how we deal with kid gloves radical Communist killers.
This is what appeared in the New York Post today,"I remember the Murtaghs' home being firebombed. It was so strange for Inwood,a peaceful neighborhood.
Think of the misery caused by empty people. What price have people like Boudin and Bill Ayers, with his ties to The Weatherman, paid?
If Boudin was a white supremacist, would she be out of jail? Would Columbia have hired her?
No,and if Ayers wasn't a millionaire's son,he might be in jail today or dead.
Boudin and Ayers have had privileges most could only dream of. People blessed with so much took away what little  other people had.

Boudin and Ayers both were member of the Weatherman and did many crimes, including murder,in the Communist cause.Boudin did go to jail, but now is free and works at Columbia University.Ayers never went to jail,no doubt because people were paid off, instead he become educator with high friends, indeed,he once did fundraiser for Obama and served on board for a non-profit with Obama.

The disgrace of the Obama Administration

The disgrace of the Obama Administration is not sending any one consequence to Lady Thatcher's funeral.I mean, you could love Lady Thatcher or hate her, that's not the point, but there is no arging she and Clement Attlee were two most consequential British Prime Ministers post World War Two.At least Sec. of State John Kerry should have gone, there is no excuse for shameful behavior by the Obama Administration.
Wrote a letter to today to the News Director at WABC-TV complaining about unprofessionalism of Bill Ritter,an anchorman. Ritter did story on Violent terrorist acts where he called, and made a point of it, Tim McVeigh a right winger. The trouble is if McVeigh was left-winger would say so? No way, look he didn't mention the Fort Hood killing because it is political incorrect to point out Muslim terrorism.
One great myth,is in Untied States after 9/11 Muslims were given a hard time. That's lie, indeed,I remember just few weeks after 9/11 downtown I saw Muslims in there garb, sort parading around and in a way putting they finger in the eyes of the public, yet they were safe, nobody touch them,oh yes no doubt dirty looks but that's all.And that wouldn't happen in Muslims country,if Christian or Jews slaughter there people, indeed, a price of blood would paid by the Christian or Jews.

Green Mountain Coffee better than Gold? Is the apple rotten?

Green Mountain Coffee better than Gold? Is the Apple rotten?
The price gold keeps going down, down, down. The of hedge of inflation that doesn't around corner ain't selling, nor is belief that protects one world's ills. You know I watch a lot Fox News and some right-wing radio talk shows and they have many ads for Gold.I wonder how one playing these days, you have lady with cash and gold bars saying if give 50,000 dollar in cash or gold but you could cash in for five years which one take.Today many would say cash.
David Einhorn who is long on Apple and short on Green Mountain Coffee must be going to poor house.Apple in last year has almost drop in half while Green Mountain Coffee seems to go up and up
maybe being fuel by all short selling? Anyway today on Fox Business News Charles Payne recommend Green Mountain Coffee saying it will go over 60.
Today in the New york Post there was piece by John Murtagh label "Columbia job for Boston bomber?".Me and Mr.Murtagh grow up in same neighborhood,Inwood at the most northern tip of Manhattan.Murtagh father was a judge and in the nineteen sixties he was judge in case dealing with radicals and his home was fire bomb.I remember walking past the home of Murtagh and there would be two cop cars park in driveway after the fire bombing.
Inwood was peaceful place for most part,in these days it mostly Irish area, although, some Jews like myself today many Dominicans live in area.It is area with many trees, parks:Inwood Hill Park, ran from Harlem River Ship Canal(which connects the Hudson River with the Harlem River) down to Dyckman area west side highway.Across from a Catholic School, the Good Shepherd is Isham Park, once a place of estate of the Isham family last until the 1940s,today unusually Mable and benches were old people use to seat and talk.As a child me and friend use pea on tree we call the glue mash tree,it no longer exist mother said it died urine poisoning.

The second Boston massacre has echoes of 9/11

The second Boston Massacre has echoes of 9/11.Ironically both happen on picture perfect days, both the villains are kind shallowly dripping with evil that can not seem.As it so happen,on 9/11/01 I worked at New york County Lawyers Association which was located catty-corner from World Trade Center.
I wrote a letter to editor about my experience on that fateful day.I wrote in 2112 and it was published in New York Daily News on 9/13/12.This is what I wrote:"On that sunny September morning, civilization seemed to cease and faith in good things was shaken forevermore.Peaceful America become a battleground of the sane versus the insane.
I worked across from the World Trade Center. That morning my smoke alarm went off, making me late for work.Looking back, that alarm, which never went off before and hasn't since, was a warning of trouble.
I crossed the bridge and got on the A train. At 59th St. the train stopped.I left the subway and walked crosstown. I saw people milling about outside. It struck me strange, but I took no notice,as I was on my hopeless attempt to make it to work.I tried the Lexington line and heard that the Pentagon was under attack.I thought, the Russians .World War III.But the Russians were now our friends;this was idiot talk. Then I left the subway again and saw that mushroom cloud over downtown.
After a few weeks, my workplace reopened. It was so strange down in that haunted land. There was a burning smell of rubber and people were in a daze, staring intensely into the hole in the ground, the site of the former World Trade Center.
Where have the 11 years gone? Time moves on and so do lives.Soon we all turn to ashes, nothing but a memory, the sound and fury of life gone forevermore.

Soon tax day in America, but in a way,an insult to Thomas Jefferson who's birthday is today.

Soon tax day in America(on April 15),but in a way,an insult to Thomas Jefferson who's birthday is today(on April 13).How ironic it is,that Jefferson's birthday falls so close to tax day.Jefferson,of course, would have been appalled by the income tax.Indeed founders would appalled at income tax, this is why Article one,Section 9 in the Constitution of the United States of America prohibits a direct tax and this why the 16 Amendment was passed in 1913 to allow an income tax.
Jefferson of course, was emphatic of rights of men and liberty,so well documented and beautifully express in the the Declaration of Independence. Here are some Mr.Jefferson's stirring words from Declaration,"When in the Course of human Events,it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Power of  the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature's God entitle them,a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation.
We hold these Truths to be self-evident,that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by there Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life,Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness-That to secure these Rights,Governments are instituted among Men,deriving their just powers from Consent to Govern-"  Mr.Jefferson goes on in the Declaration, but it is strong believe in liberty and that government gets it's power from people or another words Consent to Govern. And that's key to freedom.

Tiger should made Jason day.

Tiger should made Jason day and withdrawn from Masters.Look if he withdraws he'll look like hero if he doesn't he looks like chump. It will cost him with sponsors,I mean he's just getting off his feet from sandal if goes plays there cloud on his head, never to be removed.Yeah,he wants Jack's record, but Tiger is only 37 and this Masters you have two old man rivers(Fred Couples age 53 and Bernhard Langer age 55)in the hurt,so Tiger has plenty of time surpassed Jack's 18 Majors.
Beside Tiger the boys from Oz's(Day,Scott,Leishman seem ready for green jacket,or maybe funky swing of Jim Furyk will carry the Day,if not Jason. Then still there is English invasion(Westwood,Justin Rose) maybe home grow Huck Finn(Brandt Snedeker) or boy wonder(Rory Mcllory.) Who knows who will wear Green Jacket come Sunday evening, not even the Green Hornet.

Obama scragging a once powerful sacred cow of the Left?

Is Obama scragging a once powerful sacred cow of the Left? In this mornings Wall Street Journal a story appear, then got no attention showing how hot issues over time can become very cold. The story was Obama Administration to consider selling TVA(Tennessee Valley Authority) .The TVA once a pond time, was like a milestone for the Left,it was there jewel in the crown.A piece of socialism that work,a crowning achievement of the left, indeed,an archer to the Progressive movement and New Deal. Now Obama is thinking of selling the TVA.Has Obama become an apostate?
After World War One,one great battles on public policy was who would control the power to make electricity-investor owned companies or the government?
It centered around the Muscle Shore complex,in the 1920s the radial Left-wing Republican Senator from Nebraska George W. Norris sponsored  a plan to have the government take over and operate Muscle Shore to produce cheap power. The legislation was veto twice, once in 1928 by Coolidge and in 1931 by Hoover. However in 1933 the new President Roosevelt(FDR) ran with idea and expand it to the TVA.
The question of electrical power remain very contention for years to come, indeed,it was dividing line between Left and Right. It lead to most usual candidacies for President of United State. For Wendell Willkie was former Democrat who wind up the Republican nomination for President in 1940.Willkie was president of Commonwealth and Southern Company,a investor owned utility.Willkie wrote an article in Fortune Magazine against government owned utilities and it caught the public imagination and firestorm developed and a movement to draft Willkie for president.Nothing like that had happened and nothing since people(not usually involve in politics) volunteer for Willkie's campaign but in end it was solid south that deliver for FDR.Even as late 1964 Democrats used Goldwater's wanting sell TVA as big stick and he did lose Tennessee for that reason. Now Obama may do a Goldwater? Somehow the world seem upside down.

I know who John Kennedy is sleeping with, as Phil Graham sang that tune he sealed his fate for dusty death.

I know who John Kennedy is sleeping with,as Phil Graham sang that tune he sealed his fate for dusty death. Now quoting Mr.William Shakespeare,it(life) is a tale told by idiot(namely me),full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.Well I don't think Phil Graham life signify nothing, but maybe he did, after all,he wanted to be President. He believe he was smarter then most, who got the brass ring(the Presidency)and although he was a man of distinction he was bitterly disappointed in life.
I guess the beginning of the end of his life, was a conference in Arizona land for newspaper publishes. He got drunk, and mostly likely was having a nervous break down and in front of conference he started undressing and singing,"I know who John Kennedy is sleeping with." Somebody call the White House and a plane was sent to pick him up and them he was place in mental institution, until he talk his wife(Katharine Graham) into releasing him and them he committed suicide. Not a pretty end to such promising life.
I wonder when he marry Katharine and into Meyer family,Katharine father was Eugene Mayer noted financier and owner of Washington Post, did see it as ticket to great things to become a leader, a force to reckon with,if he did I suspect he was disappointed because perhaps being son-in-law of Eugene Mayer limited him and he become stuck in the Washington Post and rather then becoming a Senator or Governor. It had to be odd match anyway,Phil was the son of redneck millionaire, who was state senator,on the other hand,Katharine father was of Jewish descent, although raised his children as Episcopalians, along with very good Bernard Baruch, he was one of most successful investor of his day, made mint in the Stock Market.Like Baruch he enter government in the serve of President Wilson, where he gain much admiration for future President Hebert Hoover.Indeed, when depression hit Meyer become Hoover's point man on the economy both as chairman of FED and RFC.Meyer thought FDR's treatment of Hoover was disgraceful, hence,he left government and bought the Washington Post and didn't return to government service until Truman appointed him the first president of the world bank by that time his son-in-law was running the Washington Post.So it wasn't a marriage made in heaven and some where down the road for Phil it become a hell.

This will be last Masters a green jacket will be given next it will be pink jacket.

Now that women are allow to be members of Augusta National, the board,in its wisdom, has decided green jackets aren't a proper color and pink is more suited to the times.Oh yes,I think it's great idea women members and pink jackets,of course, being pig myself(thank God I don't live in China not so good for pigs there these days)I prefer if I was member of Augusta National, which is likely as Rush Limbaugh and President Obama getting marry)that the only women allow to be members are young, from 18 to 30,and good looking and must wear very short skirts.Thank God I'm kosher otherwise I'm be biggest pig around.
The eye of Tiger is on Augusta,he's got to be favorite.Of course,Phil just might give us a thrill for he's game is so suited for Augusta. And then there is boy wonder the young lad from Northern Ireland Rory MclLroy and just might be an English invasion:Lee Westwood,Luke Donald,Justin Rose or guy with fancy clothes.Or maybe flying Scot Martin Laird will win the last green jacket.Or maybe somebody off the radar screen.

Margaret Thatcher R.I.P

The great lady is dead, and by great lady I don't mean the grey lady(the New York Times) but the iron lady.Boy if I could put time in a bottle,I do so in two second if we bring Margaret Thatcher to 10 Downing Street. For back in day,not so long ago,we have real leaders like Thatcher,Reagan and Pope  John Paul II,this dynamic force put end to the darkness of Communism.A feat many said was impossible, but when remarkable people are head of state anything possible.
Margaret Thatcher understood the great myth of socialism:that is,when the state owns assets the people own the asset that is one biggest lies people swallow.A bureaucracy is not the people, indeed,it's often an invisible force of shallows accountable only to it's self. And when the state owns assets how do people benefit? Do they get a dividend check from profits or do there taxes go up because the state owned entities  lose money?
Another misconception that is comman is job and work.A job is artificial term that people receive money for and in return they may render a service, hence, work for money or they may not. Many jobs are phony and in effect are walfare payments.

Beyonce and Jay-Z the new royalty.Kim Kardashian the queen of white trash.

Beyonce and Jay-Z the new royalty. We love celebrity, especially America,I don't know why? Funny it use to be Kennedy's that was America's royalty but time moves on and yes flavor become insipid to the shallow public in very short time.
Now jay-Z has become sports agent(like he needs the money?) signing the best player in baseball the Yankees Robinson Cano.
Kim Karashian has become the queen of White trash. You don't know how lucky you are Mr. Basketball player that wench left you.Now true enough Kim Karashian compare to Madonna isn't so trashy. And for you young people who may not not know who Madonna is,well she women you give sluts a bad name.
I sick and tried of excuses in hears for Adam Lanza. He is bullied at school so what! If everybody who's been bullied become a manic murders like Lanza well world wouldn't exist.People, including me have dyslexia and came from broken home, had rough childhood and not easy being adult, indeed, to this very  day many people mock and bully me, yet I understand that's life it's unfair you go on living the best you can.Lanza and his stupid mother are blame for New town Conn. and nobody else ,for the blood of the innocent is on there hand not societies, not NRA,not the government.

A letter to editor I got published dealing with big government.

Today 4/6/13 in the Record(the local paper for Bergen County,New Jersey) I got letter to the editor published. It was in response to one there editorials not supporting legislation that make school district and counties pay up when taxpayers win appeals. But letter went beyond best described with headline for letter done by the newspaper"Many problems caused by big government."
This is what was published,"What's wrong with school districts and counties sharing the cost of tax-appeals refunds? Nothing, except that it doesn't address the real problem in New Jersey, which is too much government.
It is long overdue for us to look at just how government provides its goods and services.far too often, government seems like a jobs program for lawyers. We must reinvent how government works and get rid of the myth that government can solve all problems.
I notice that your editorial on the topic used the words "burden sharing".Tax refunds are a burden for whom? It is the taxes that are burden on people.Governments can handle financial hardship far easier than individuals.
One objection you give to the pending legislation is that municipalities can have reserve funds and school district can't.Well change the law so school district can have reserve funds.
State Sen.Loretta Weinberg D-Teaneck is one of those who doesn't get the notion that problems we have are not because government taxes too little, but because the government is too big and spends too much."

Made Dennis Rodman the assbassador to North Korea

Made Dennis Rodman the ambassador to North Korea. Why not? I mean, both Rodman and Kim Jong Un are crazy so maybe they speak the same language,a language no one in there right mind understands. The trouble is no nobody understands Un ,except his unknown quantity, all we know he's part of an evil dynasty. It is so strange old family dynasties, like in North Korea died in middle ages in Europe.Of course,China can put pressure on North Korea it keeps them a float and I think the reason why is China fears the break up of North Korea. China fears this for two reason:one it fears a massive crossing over the border to China from North Korea by destitute people, who are barely clinging to life and them if the North would fall and Korea would unify under the South,China would face great competition from Korea both economically and militarily.
Back in good old U.S.A disappointing job growth in March only 88,000 new jobs. What a recovery? And Obama administration is playing with fire,by going back to encouraging people to buy houses they can't afford, this was one reason the financial crisis took place, other was weak regulations on financial sector. You see both the Right and Left were to blame:Right by believing too much in free markets, the Left believing too much in government.

The disgrace of Columbia University.

Columbia University, once a pond time know as King's Collage but that was before the American Revolution but then King's Collage as name would indicate was very loyal to the crown. The administration was very anti-American and it's a funny thing the more things change the more they don't.Columbia today is very anti-American,indeed,the other day I read in New York Post that Columbia has given a adjunct professorship to a murder, communist, radical of the sixties Kathy Boudin. Now if Ms.Boudin was white supremacist and not a communist you think Columbia would have given her such a position? Fat chance it's more likely the Pope will become Jewish.
I don't know if Ms.Boudin comes from a wealthy family like her pal Bill Ayers, who's father was the CEO of the utility company for Chicago. And most likely it was daddy's money that kept him out jail, either by buying good lawyers or paying people off in the criminal justice system.People like Ayers and his wife Bernarde Dorn and Boudin are spoiled rotten, children of privilege who opportunities most of us  can only dream of,but they are phony radicals,in a way,for they are so dishonest about themselves they seek the destruction of society, yet it's same society that give them good life and they cause so reckoning, killing people, working class people in the name of social justice. But it is all fraud for if seek justice, one must be just and Ayers,Boudin are not just people just takers. Now of course,Ayers is great educator,no doubt poisoning minds of youth.

Samurais being reborn in Bank of Japan?

Samurais being reborn in Bank of Japan? The Japaneses government has decided to declare war on the Yen.Now this is old policy, and not a wise one,the believe that you create inflation to cause prosperity is bit crazy to me and history shows you that you can have inflation without growth or little growth, just look at U.S in nineteen seventies, yes some growth but was wipe out by inflation,it took President Reagan and FED Chair Volcker to save the day.But Bank of Japan believes by buying more bonds(God Know they own already far too many bonds) and even ETFs and REIT and will spur wealth, but it's old game that doesn't work.Japan's problem is aging population and other counties should take note an aging population is problem in Europe and China.I think Malthus and his essay on the principles of population just might be wrong!
Don't cry for me Argentina I'll cry for you.Once again Argentina is verge of bankruptcy. It's amazing Argentina should be rich country but because misrule it's always seems to be drowning in debt.A lesson for all countries population growth is important, especially went country has huge social welfare and pension, medical care obligations  then you must have young people to fill the jobs of older population leaving the work force otherwise there a void and wealth is drain not created.
Watching Bloomberg T.V there always seem to have Elon Musk(the most overrated businessman in the world) and Mohamed El-Erian who is very measured in his speech, hence,he usually says nothing.
Reading in the Wall Street Journal today that Peabody Coal is being sued by credits of Parrot Coal, which was a spin-off of Peabody.Parrot Coal was Eastern part of Peabody, hence,it mines where underground more environmental problems then western mine(in the U.S) of Peabody's.Despite taking beat on Peabody stock(it's very low) and Obama war on Coal I still like Peabody stock especially that these low prices.Peabody not only owns mines in the U.S but also Australia and think there are negotiating with Mongolia for operations there too! I think while demand coal in the U.S is dropping it's  going to pick up world wide once we have a stronger recovery taking place,I can see big demand in India and China.

Dave Stockman the Thorstein Veblen of our times?

Dave Stockman the Thorstein Veblen of our times? Dave Stockman, blast from the past,he had been a Congressman from Michigan from 1977 to 1981 and then OMB Director for President Reagan.Anyway Stockman wrote a piece for the New York Times,a prelude to his book, sounded very much like Old Testament prophet, preaching gloom and doom for the economy. It's old song and sometime but rarely it hits right notes.I guess, one such case was Thorstein Veblen(an economist of note) prediction of  the stock market crash of 1929.Unfortunately for Mr.Veblen he died just before the market tank in 1929,indeed,just months before so ended the life unusually academic. For Mr.Veblen had colorful life,to say the least,it was said he was so lazy he won't wash his dishes until they pile up and  them set the dishes on the lawn a wash them with a watering hose, and it was said,he was so bashful when he gave his lectures in class he speak hiding, sort of,under the desk, but he couldn't been too bashful for he got fired from Chicago University for sex with chancellor wife.
Now the mercurial Dave Stockman, after an unsettled stint as OMB Director Stockman left politics for the even more unscrupulous world of Wall Street. His investing style was contrarian, which can be wise but Stockman paid heavy price when ran Collins &  Aikman into the ground he was indicted, later drop but lost about 13 million dollars but then again being OMB director he was use to losing money.
What's the story with Green Mountain Coffee? On 9/2/11 the stock was selling at 103 by 6/20/12 stock tank to 18 and many said the company would be history,David Einhorn said short, short and if did today stock is at 58(or in the morning last I look) and if Einhorn ready is shorting the stock then he will be in his shorts for he can't  afforded pants, but maybe funny business is involve and why no media notice of this reversal of fortune?
